The Risk of Developing a Yaz Blood Clot
January 27th, 2012Women today struggle to find a method of contraception that is reliable, easy, and safe. Many thought they’d found it with the oral contraceptive pill Yaz. Marketed by Bayer, this drug was touted as an improvement over typical birth control pills. Ads for Yaz claimed the drug might work with your body chemistry when in fact, the effective ingredients in Yaz work against a female body’s natural chemistry in order to prevent conditions that would allow a woman to become pregnant. That same active ingredient that sets Yaz apart from other birth control pills, a chemical called drospirenone, is actually quite dangerous when ingested on a regular basis. A woman who uses the drug can develop a Yaz blood clot due to a build-up of potassium in her bloodstream. This condition is particularly dangerous to individuals who are already at risk for health conditions related to excessive clotting, which includes stroke, heart problems and deep vein thrombosis. People who thought Yaz was too good to be true were right and American women will continue to look for that perfect contraceptive.
